I don’t know why, but there is so much hate and rage on YouTube. I have a video from a Defend Boyle Heights anti-gentrification march, and there are some pretty mean comments.
One comment is from Anthony Genzale.
That’s a rash assumption, that the protesters are all undocumented. I knew some were undocumented, but I also knew that many were born here, and many have been residents for a few generations (like myself). Also, Boyle Heights is unique in that it’s one of the neighborhoods of Los Angeles where people stay for three or four generations. Indeed, the greater eastside is like that, and I have met so many people with roots going back to the 1930s or before, in the neighborhood. I have only the slightest footstep here, through my mother, who lived here briefly in the late 1960s.
Another comment is from a fellow whose name I will blot out, because he had the decency to remove his comment:
Well… I’m trying to listen to his music right now. It’s kind of ambient and “chill”, but this guy has no chill at all, going racist and fascist like that. The point of the protest was that the community was turned into a “third world” integrated, internal colony, by white American Apartheid housing policies that didn’t allow them to live in the new developments in the suburbs or the westside. That set up the conditions for this capitalist invasion and attempted takeover of this long-lived community.
As some stories have pointed out, this fight is really left vs. left. One of the galleries under boycott, 356 Mission, is using progressive political events to “artwash” their role in gentrification. So “the people”, in this case, these protesters, are “defending themselves accordingly against this vermin communist ‘backed by the rich’ fake ass motherfuckers.”
Not surprisingly, the protesters are also using some coarse language, just like this commenter. It’s almost like the Internet comment section is leaving the bedroom and getting into the streets!
Meanwhile, the so-called ultra-left keeps racking up victory after victory! You can’t argue with success!
Onward, to federal funding to make housing a human right, for all people in this country.
Update:
Here’s his channel. Another electronica loving fascist or symp. Fascists are the proponents of gentrification.
